It’s a fruit of citrus family. Hybridization work on citrus fruit was initiated in 1915 AD by Mr. Frost at the Citrus Research Institiute, California, USA and in 1935 this product was named "Mandarin/Kinnow".
Owing to a most suitable infrastructure (fertile plains of the Punjab, favorable weather conditions and above all, the availability of canal irrigation system), Pakistan produces one of the best varieties of Hybrid Citrus fruits (KINNOW) that is cross between "Cultivar" (King) and "Willow Leaf",now classifed as "Kinnow Mandarin"(Citrus Reticulata). Pakistan today is the largest producer of "Kinnow/Mandarin" in the world.

The skin is used to make cosmetics and essence.
Dietary fiber contains pectin(carbohydrate) that is beneficial for the stomach and intestine and also helps to lower the blood cholesterol levels. Pakistani Kino is easy to peel citrus fruit, which has assumed special importance being acknowledged for it is sweet and slightly sour in taste, and is rich with vitamin “C” content. This natural produce is widely used not only to eat but for Citrus juice, marmalades, Jams and squashes etc. Such type of Citrus fruit is not found in any other part of the world.
